Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - The Hessian state government wants to support the tourism industry, which has been battered by the corona pandemic, with a bundle of advertising measures.

"The time after the corona pandemic will come, and we want to be prepared for it," said Economics Minister Tarek Al-Wazir (Greens) at the request of the German Press Agency in Wiesbaden.

The measures are to run over six months and have a budget of over 50,000 euros.

Al-Wazir explained that around 230,000 jobs and considerable added value, especially in rural regions, would depend on tourism across the country and in full-time positions.

The corona crisis is a major setback for the industry.

However, the pandemic has not changed Hesse's attractiveness as a travel destination.

"Our strengths such as scenic and cultural diversity, good accessibility and favorable location continue to exist," emphasized the Minister of Economic Affairs.

"That's why we have good prospects when traveling gets going again."

Since most offers cannot currently be experienced due to the corona restrictions in lockdown, a classic, broad-based campaign would not be effective, explained Al-Wazir.

The target groups are more in a phase of inspiration and planning.

It is therefore important to reach those who are currently actively looking for travel destinations and experiences in the online media.

According to the Green politician, the focus of the support is therefore on online measures such as search engine optimization and better finding of Hessian offers.

For this purpose, new pages for individual regions and city portraits have been created on the website "Hessen-Tourismus.de".

To this end, advertisements would be placed on external websites and portals as well as in the print media.

The Corona crisis left deep marks on the Hessian tourism balance last year.

Hotels, guest houses and other accommodation providers counted 57 percent fewer guests and 48 percent fewer overnight stays than in the previous year.

This trend continued at the start of the current year: In January, the accommodation providers recorded 84 percent fewer guests and 71 percent fewer overnight stays compared to the same period in the previous year.
