Bremerhaven (dpa / lni) - After three days of downtime, an important part of the Bremerhaven port is working again, at least in emergency mode.

On the night of Easter Sunday, experts restarted the Kaiserschleuse, which was actually closed for renovation, as the port operator Bremenports announced.

So two fully loaded ships could leave the Kaiserhafen.

The second exit from the Kaiserhafen was prevented on Thursday by a technical damage.

A steel girder cracked at a swing bridge.

According to Bremenports, the bridge suffered a total loss and has to be dismantled.

This should happen at the end of next week.

The Lloyd shipyard and several car loading facilities are located at the Kaiserhafen.

In addition to containers, the handling of thousands of vehicles is an important part of port operations in Bremerhaven.
