Dillingen (dpa / lrs) - After the fire in an apartment building in Dillingen (Saarlouis district), six people were brought to hospitals - with suspected smoke poisoning.

The fire broke out in an apartment in the house on Easter Sunday afternoon, the police said.

Twelve people were in the downtown property at the time.

Some were able to get to safety, others were rescued by fire brigade turntable ladders, it was said.

A house cat probably did not survive the fire.

Another cat and two birds were rescued from the house.

The building is currently no longer habitable.

The cause of the fire was initially unclear.
