Ralbitz (dpa) - The Sorbian Easter riders left the Catholic Lausitz on Sunday - under strict Corona rules.

Hundreds of horses and riders formed in bright sunshine in Ralbitz near Bautzen in Saxony for a procession to Wittichenau, about ten kilometers away - after a negative test, with a mask and without a spectator.

Only a few onlookers from the area stood along the train.

Unlike usual, the time and route of the processions were not known in advance in order to avoid crowds.

The riders had to wear a mask when they were not in the saddle - praying and singing on horseback was also possible without them.

At the highest Christian festival, the Easter riders in Catholic Lusatia go from village to village every year.

In tails and top hats, they traditionally proclaim the message of the resurrection of Christ on festively decorated horses in nine processions on Easter Sunday.

The spectacle is usually watched by thousands of spectators, including many tourists.
