Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The rush to the vaccination appointments for the age group 60 plus has already led to overloaded lines on the phone and on the Internet early on Saturday morning.

While many chose to have their fingers sore in vain, the first successful appointment hunters got their vaccinations on the same day.

The Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KV) Westfalen-Lippe announced that within the first hour around 40,000 vaccination appointments had been given to people over the age of 60.

"14 vaccinations have already been carried out."

According to the NRW Ministry of Health, 13,000 appointments were initially allocated early in the morning when the KV Nordrhein was first served.

The group from 60 years of age comes out of the usual order after the Standing Vaccination Commission recommended that Astrazeneca no longer use the preparation for younger people.

The background is cases of blood clots (thromboses) in cerebral veins.

In this way, 450,000 vaccine doses were released in the short term in North Rhine-Westphalia alone.

According to the Ministry of Health, there are potentially around 3.8 million people between 60 and 79 years of age in NRW who can now try to register for this Astrazeneca batch.

However, shortly after the lines were opened, the ministry reported via Twitter that the booking systems of the two statutory health insurance associations were overloaded: "We ask for your understanding for the inconvenience."

Appointments are still possible.

"The appointment booking platform of the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians Westphalia-Lippe (KVWL) is running stable," said its press office in the morning.

"Currently, however, there may be slight delays in sending the registration and confirmation emails."

The KVWL ask the citizens for patience.

"A new registration should not be carried out at first."
