"I swear I was a junkie: /

Go ahead and buy me the first album, / I swear I was a junkie.

/ Inside the album there is a photo / of when I was a junkie."

In one of their cult micro-hits, the Valencian group Don Julio y Los Chocolas condensed the fascination that the music business has always felt towards jaco consumers.

The 'heroin-chic' of the 90s finished glorifying the trend, by expanding the aesthetic field to models like

Kate Moss

.

The bad thing is that, from laughing so much to thank the heroin addicts, they were dying.

Which can be very funny for the industry and the public, yes, the sad thing is that they applauded it, but very bad for the victims.

So it is always happy news to see a former drug star overcome his addictions, even if it means considerable weight gain.

What happened to English musician Pete Doherty.

The British newspaper 'The Sun' published an exclusive last week with images of Doherty taken at his current residence in Normandy, in northern France.

In them, the singer and guitarist is seen with a very different aspect from the one he looked at the beginning of the century, when his group

The Libertines

led the new wave of pub-rock that ignited in the Anglo-sphere.

Pete Doherty

portrayed the accursed and emaciated young man (in front of the more beautiful and healthy appearance of his fellow ranks, Carl Barat), a follower of

Baudelaire's

teachings

and with greenish dark circles that did not herald anything good.

Finally, he ended up leaving the group to start his own band,

The Babyshambles

, where his bad life increased.

It was around this time that he began dating stars who occupied the same ecological niche in terms of nightlife, like his colleague

Amy Winehouse

and Kate Moss herself.

With the latter he lived a volcanic romance that coincided with the scandal caused by the hidden camera recording of the model

snorting cocaine

, which was published by the 'Daily Mirror' and which caused him to lose several contracts.

During those years, the scandals for Pete also increased, with numerous

arrests in various parts of the world

for his abuse of narcotics.

A behavior that was accompanied by erratic performances, several of them in Spain, where he always liked to travel.

Following Winehouse's death in 2011, many obituaries for Pete were left written, in anticipation that he would follow the same path.

The years passed and, after meeting with Barat for a new stage with The Libertines, Doherty formed new groups, such as

The Puta Madres, of which his current partner, Katia de Vidas, was part

.

During all that time, he did not lose his fondness for playing in the street or getting into fights, some of them with spectacular results and profusion of blood.

The last incident in his career took place precisely in France, when he was

arrested

at the end of 2019 for the

use and possession of cocaine

.

After being released, he

went out to celebrate

and was involved in a fight, for which

he was arrested again.

But the Doherty of today has little to do with it.

According to the American Association of Detoxification Centers,

65% of patients gain weight after giving up drugs

, while 20% end up suffering from some type of obesity.

Apparently, food activates the same receptors as psychoactive ones, so its use can be considered a substitute in addictive personalities.

'The Sun' explains that the English musician is now clean and that he is enjoying his new condition with De Vidas.

Although he has not completely given up alcohol, he has greatly reduced his consumption and prefers to have "a good glass of water."

As for his diet, his plump figure is not so much a result of junk food, as the nearest McDonalds is a 40-minute drive from his current residence.

'The Sun' attributes it to

his fondness for local delicacies, such as comté cheese, which he usually takes on toast

.

"I have given up heroin and ketamine,"

Doherty proclaims to the British tabloid.

He also notes that he has found a new hobby: "For years, I could be awake for five or six days in a row, and then I would get into a belly of sleep for 24 hours. Now, instead, I love to sleep."
