Stuttgart (dpa) - Shortly before the final exploratory discussion with the Southwest CDU, Greens state chief Oliver Hildenbrand was optimistic about the prospects of a new green-black coalition.

“We really didn't make the decision easy for ourselves.

Now we are clear, "said Hildenbrand on Saturday the German press agency before the meeting in the Stuttgart House of Architects.

When asked whether the Union now had to make major concessions, he said the Greens had made their expectations clear in the exploration.

"The CDU has promised to release the brakes."

Now we have to act «powerfully» when it comes to climate protection.

CDU parliamentary group leader Wolfgang Reinhart was also confident.

A lot has already been achieved, he said on arrival.

The party leaders of the Greens and CDU want to set the course today for a renewed edition of the green-black coalition.

The Greens team around Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann wanted to meet with the CDU leadership around Thomas Strobl in Stuttgart for a final exploratory discussion in the morning.

A paper is to be voted on that will serve as the basis for coalition negotiations.

A joint statement is planned for the afternoon (3 p.m.).

The Greens met again on Good Friday in the state executive to deal with the scandal of Maundy Thursday.

Numerous members of the committee had initially turned against the recommendation of Kretschmann and the exploration team on Thursday to reunite with the CDU.

Instead, they wanted a traffic light with the SPD and FDP.

Only after a long break did the board of directors agree to Kretschmann's request that evening.
