On Saturday, at least five other protesters were shot dead in Myanmar.

Military forces opened fire on protesters in several parts of the country on Saturday morning, Swedish time.

The fatal shootings are said to have taken place in the cities of Monywa, Bago and Thaton, according to local media.

Over 550 dead

A total of more than 550 people have now been killed in protests since the country's military junta seized power in a coup in early February, Reuters reports.

The country's elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi was overthrown in connection with the takeover and has since been detained.
