Hamburg (AP) - The return of US striker Bobby Wood from the second division soccer club Hamburger SV to his home country is perfect.

On Friday, Major League Soccer (MLS) Real Salt Lake confirmed the commitment of the 28-year-old attacker.

According to the association, Wood received a contract until 2023. The agreement is effective from July 1.

The club from Utah is the first MLS station in the career of the US national player.

"It was really important for me to come to a club that feels like family, and that's why it feels so good to move to Real Salt Lake," he was quoted in the statement of his future club.

Wood came to Germany in 2007 as a teenager for TSV 1860 Munich.

In 2016 he moved from Union Berlin for four million euros to the then Bundesliga club HSV and remained one of the big earners in the squad even after Hamburg's relegation in 2018.

He was never able to fulfill the hopes placed in him.

In the meantime, he was loaned to Hannover 96 in the 2018/19 season.

In the current season, Wood was only in the starting line-up on the previous day of the second division HSV and helped with the 2-0 against 1. FC Heidenheim.

Otherwise, he has only made 14 appearances as a substitute and scored one goal.

The internal competition with striker Simon Terodde is currently too strong.
