On April 1, local time, Vietnam succeeded the United States as the rotating chairman of the United Nations Security Council in April.

In the afternoon of the same day, Deng Dinggui, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations, held a press conference, and the major media successively asked Deng Dinggui questions on the Myanmar issue.

Deng Dinggui stated that the Security Council is drafting a statement after internal consultations on the situation in Myanmar on March 31, and he expects the statement to be announced as soon as possible.

In addition, the Security Council will hold an Arria mode meeting on April 9 to discuss the situation in Myanmar.

Deng Dinggui stated that Myanmar is a member of the ASEAN family, and Vietnam and other members of the Security Council are closely following the development of the situation.

The situation in Myanmar not only affects Myanmar, but also affects the stability and prosperity of ASEAN countries and related regions.

Vietnam is concerned about the recent escalation of violence in Myanmar and calls on all parties to sit down and negotiate, stop the violence, create conditions for dialogue and resolve the issue.

He said that ASEAN will also work closely with the United Nations to resolve the Myanmar issue.

Deng Dinggui said that the most important thing for the United Nations and the Security Council at present is to save the lives of the Burmese people and stop violence, not to create an escalation of violence on either side.

He believes that any unilateral sanctions will not help stop violence and solve problems.
