The US Capitol is under
temporary emergency closure
due to a "foreign security threat," police said Friday, without offering further details.
"Due to an external security threat, the entry and exit of all the buildings of the US Capitol is not allowed at this time," said a police message sent to congressmen.
The message indicated that those who are inside the complex can move but must stay "away from windows and doors." According to preliminary information, a car would have collided with one of the protection fences of the security perimeter.
The AFP agency reports that
two agents were injured
after being run over near the United States Congress by a vehicle whose driver was detained, police said on Friday.
"There is a suspect in custody. Both officers were injured. All three were taken to hospital," the Capitol Police Department reported on Twitter.
