Ordering a taxi through your mobile is nothing new, but the fact that the car then shows up without a taxi driver is not something we are used to seeing.

The question now is whether the self-driving taxis will eventually take over the market.

- It will make many people suffer, they will lose their jobs, says taxi driver Joseph Alabi.

Another taxi driver expresses concern for safety, but according to Ramses Madou, head of traffic planning at San José, the hope is that the self-driving cars will be safer for people both inside and outside the car.

He believes that within five to ten years we will begin to see the technology used on a larger scale.
