Halberstadt (dpa / sa) - The Landeszentrum Wald Sachsen-Anhalt (LZW) called on walkers to pay more attention after a forest fire this week in Flechtingen (Börde).

"Forest fire level 3 has already been reached," announced the LZW.

In particular, the long Easter weekend and the spring-like temperatures invite many people into nature.

"Temperatures over 20 degrees, lack of precipitation and the abundant dry grass and leaves from last winter increase the risk of forest fires," explained Andreas Goldschmidt from the Forest Regional Center.

Despite the recent snowfall, the soil was not sufficiently moistened.

The dry summers of the last few years were still showing their effects.

Forest visitors should therefore pay more attention to correct behavior.

Smoking should be avoided entirely.

Throwing away cigarettes in nature is prohibited.

Open fires and barbecues are also not permitted.
