Hamburg (AP) - Former HSV President and General Manager Peter Krohn is dead. As the Hamburg second division soccer team announced on Friday evening, citing his family, he died on Thursday at the age of 89.
In the 1970s, Krohn laid the foundation for the most successful years in the history of Hamburger SV.
In 1973 he was first elected president of the traditional club.
In 1975 he gave up his position and until 1977 Krohn worked as general manager.
During his time in charge, he managed to reorganize the club.
The greatest sporting successes were the DFB Cup victory in 1976 and a year later the success in the European Cup Winners' Cup.
Krohn achieved almost more attention in 1977 when he signed the then English superstar Kevin Keegan, whom he brought from Liverpool FC.
Later club idols such as Felix Magath and Willi Reimann also came during his tenure.
The graduate economist was the first in German professional football to consistently drive marketing forward.
He made the players appear in pink jerseys, among other things.

At the turn of the millennium, Krohn sat on the HSV supervisory board.
His father Hans Krohn played for the club in the 1920s and became German champion in 1923.
