New variant

The complete genome sequencing of a new variant of the Coronavirus discovered in the Cerba HealthCare laboratory in Milan by the taskforce coordinated by virologist Francesco Broccolo, of the University of Milan Bicocca, was filed today on international databases.

"At the moment - the researchers say - the new variant does not appear to be more contagious or more lethal than the other known variants of the Sars-Cov-2 virus".

Broccoli's team observed in early March a never-before-seen combination of mutations, which includes features of the Nigerian and English variants.

The result of whole genome sequencing confirmed that this is a new variant.
