Munich (dpa) - The corona pandemic has spurred the demand for ultra-HD televisions with particularly high image resolution.
Three quarters of all TV sets sold are now UHD-capable - and the range of programs for them is also slowly growing.
As the HD + platform announced on Thursday, the RTL and ProSiebenSat.1 channels broadcast around 700 programs in UHD quality via their satellites last year.
This year more than 1100 programs are planned - although repetitions are included.
While ARD and ZDF are still holding back, the UHD offer on the subscription broadcaster Sky and the streaming providers Netflix and Amazon is large.
The spokesman for the German TV platform industry association, Stefan Vollmer, said: "UHD broadcasts are also increasing in linear television and live."
Anyone who digs deep into their pockets and subscribes to all offers can watch some shows, top Bundesliga games or Formula 1 races in UHD in addition to films and series.
Despite the overall still limited range of programs, 5.4 million UHD televisions were sold in Germany last year - that was 73 percent of all TV sets.
The total turnover with televisions increased by 15 percent to 4.4 billion euros.
"The most important driver was TV sets with Ultra HD resolution, which made up 90 percent of total TV sales last year," said HD + spokesman Frank Lilie, citing figures from the Society for Consumer & Home Electronics and the market researcher GfK.
The average price for televisions has risen to almost 600 euros - after several years of falling prices, an increase of 4.5 percent.
