The epidemic peak of people infected with Covid-19 could be reached within "approximately 7 to 10 days" and the "resuscitation peak" by the end of April, said the Minister of Health , Olivier Véran, this Thursday on France Inter.

"We could have reached the epidemic peak within 7 to 10 days approximately (...) then it takes two more weeks to reach the peak of resuscitation, which could be on the side of the end of April", detailed the minister, questioned on the impact of the measures exposed Wednesday by Emmanuel Macron.

"Enough weapons" to achieve this

The President of the Republic has announced a new turn of the screw in the face of the Covid-19 epidemic, calling on the French to "provide an additional effort", but without strict confinement.

Nurseries, schools, colleges and high schools will be closed for three to four weeks, the restrictions, in force in 19 departments, have been extended to the entire metropolis and travel limited.

The objective is to “stop this epidemic wave (…) so that it is as weak as possible and accelerate its reduction”, declared Olivier Véran, considering that he had “sufficient weapons” to achieve this.

Among these, the vaccination which will be extended to all people over the age of 60 on April 16, to all those over 50 on May 15 and then open from mid-June to those under 50, announced Emmanuel Macron Wednesday.

"A life close to normal" this summer

The Head of State also affirmed that a "specific strategy" would be defined "for all the most exposed professions", such as teachers and the police.

Regarding the vaccination of teachers, the Minister of Health said the subject was under discussion.

It is envisaged that “we will be able to do this when, for example, we have vaccinated people aged 60 and over,” he said.

"The other side of the wave is the month of May", guaranteed the minister.

This summer the "stake will be to get people" so that they are vaccinated because they "will perhaps wonder if it is still useful to do it" in view of a lesser circulation of the virus. , he added.

"I am convinced that the French will have vacations this summer and that we will find a life close to normal," assured Olivier Véran, who, however, can not yet comment on "vacation abroad".
