According to Brussels police, around 2,000 people gathered on Maundy Thursday in the Belgian capital's largest park to take part in 'La Boum' (the party).

This despite the fact that the party's organizers several days ago said that their invitation on social media was just a scam.

Hundreds of police, some in riot gear and on horseback, dispersed partying youths who chanted 'freedom' and threw bottles and stones at the police in protest against, among other things, that only four people are allowed to meet at the same time outdoors.

- We are all depressed.

I will be 18 years old in two weeks, we want to be able to use our youth, says high school student Amelie to Reuters.

- We did not come here to irritate anyone, but to show that we also have a life and that we want to enjoy it.

At least two civilians and three policemen were injured in the riots.

Four people were arrested.

Party organizers promised DJs and artist performances

The ad for the fake party was posted as a post on Facebook in March and the organizers promised DJs and artist performances, including a reunion of the recently split French band Daft Punk.

Prosecutors have launched an investigation to see who is behind the post on Facebook.

Brussels Mayor Philippe Close says on Twitter that he understands that people need fresh air, but at the same time stated that the city authorities will not tolerate such crowds.

- Those who do not obey the police risk being arrested and prosecuted, he says.
