Dresden (dpa) - After the ammunition scandal at the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) Saxony, the top of the authority has announced an in-depth test and better controls.

First, an inventory is to be made in all armories of the special operations commandos, said LKA boss Petric Kleine after a special meeting of the interior committee in the state parliament.

The aim is to determine which ammunition has been removed from armories for target practice since 2015 and whether these exercises actually took place.

On Tuesday it became known that a mobile task force of the LKA 2018 had taken part in shooting training on a private shooting range in Güstrow without a permit and paid for it with at least 7,000 rounds of ammunition from the LKA's stocks.

The commander and three shooting instructors are considered the main suspects and have been suspended from duty.

The other 13 officers were assigned to the Dresden Police Department.

During the investigation, they also want to check whether there was any contact with the right-wing scene, it said.

The focus is on the group "Nordkreuz", which is classified by the protection of the constitution in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania as right-wing extremists.

So far it is unclear whether the ammunition or parts of it was used during the training or whether it was used purely as payment and later disappeared in dark channels.

According to Kleine, the issue and control of the ammunition was directed by the unit concerned itself. The four-eyes principle therefore took place in the command itself.

The supervisor did not approve the application for the exercise because he categorically refused a training session on private property.

Ultimately, tactics could also get outside.

According to Kleine, the affected command will be disbanded with 30 men.

The remaining officers are to be divided between the three remaining special units.

Later one wants to rebuild the dissolved unit.

"I am ashamed of what officials in my office have done," he said.

The police's reputation suffered as a result of the incident.

Particularly in the case of special units, a special relationship of trust is necessary.

They are quasi the «last instance of the police» when working against serious criminals.

Interior Minister Roland Wöller (CDU) condemned the event again and spoke of an "unbelievable amount of criminal energy": "In this case there is nothing, absolutely nothing to justify."

It is all the more important that there is now comprehensive clarification and that those responsible are punished quickly.

The first consequences have been drawn.

The parliamentary groups in the Saxon state parliament were unanimous in horror at the allegations.
