Schlaubetal (dpa / bb) - Unknown people stole two metal gates from the protective fence against African swine fever in the Brandenburg community of Schlaubetal (Oder-Spree) southeast of Berlin.

The fence was already firmly anchored in the ground, the thieves caused damage of 2500 euros, said the police department East on Thursday.

"It happens again and again that elements of the fence are stolen," said a police spokesman.

Consumer Protection Minister Ursula Nonnemacher also criticized the deeds: "We keep having the problem with massive vandalism," remarked the Green politician in the responsible state parliament committee in January.

Fixed fences were trampled down and cut, electric fences were stolen.

In the Uckermark, the police have started to engrave fences to protect against theft.
