Andernach (dpa / lrs) - At the professional associations and accident insurance companies in Rhineland-Palatinate, suspected occupational diseases or accidents at work in connection with Covid-19 are increasing.

This is based on special surveys for 2020 and the first two months of this year, announced the Rhineland-Palatinate Accident Insurance Fund (UK RLP) and its umbrella association German Statutory Accident Insurance (DGUV) on Thursday.

According to the Unfallkasse, 141 suspected coronavirus infections were received in the workplace in January and February of this year alone.

In the past year, 245 such advertisements were reported.

From the start of the pandemic to the end of February, the Unfallkasse has decided 339 cases.

An occupational disease was recognized in 145 of them.

According to the information, the recognition of Covid-19 as an occupational disease is primarily possible for employees in the health care sector, in welfare services and in laboratories.

In addition, an occupational disease can also be recognized in employees who are exposed to the risk of infection in their work to the same extent as the occupational groups mentioned.

"And it makes it clear how important the progress of the vaccination is."
