April 1, 2021 Environments close to the cardinal who Pope Francis had "fired" on September 24 from his post as prefect of the congregation of the "Causes of Saints", simultaneously depriving him of the rights linked to the cardinalate, reported on the mass "in Coena Domini" among the two: Bergoglio and Angelo Becciu met in the chapel of the cardinal's private apartment, in the Palazzo del Sant'Uffizio.

"He was happy and excited," explains

Tonio Becciu

, the brother of the cardinal, of the visit and the mass with Pope Francis, experienced by the family as a real reconciliation.

"My brother called me on the phone to give me the good news, he was keen to tell us personally. His Holiness went to his apartment in the afternoon and they celebrated Coena Domini together. We are all very happy. It is really a good thing."

The Vatican note

"We do not comment on news of the Pope's private commitments but it does not seem strange a gesture of paternity like this, on a day like this, Holy Thursday", is the comment of Vatican sources on the meeting with Becciu.

The Easter Triduum begins in the Vatican

With the Mass presided over by Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re in the Vatican, the "Easter Triduum" began which, due to the pandemic, does not include the traditional washing of the feet.

On Holy Thursday the Pope, in past years, has always preferred to celebrate this anniversary outside the Vatican, in places such as prisons and hospitals, washing the feet of the guests of these structures.

Next appointments

This morning Francis presided at the Chrism Mass on Holy Thursday, but for the evening ceremony Jorge Mario Bergoglio, 84, preferred to be replaced by the dean of the college of cardinals.

Tomorrow, Good Friday,

2 April

, the celebration of the Passion in St. Peter's will take place at 6 pm, in the presence of Francis, and three hours later, at 9 pm, the Holy Father will preside over the Way of the Cross worldwide, also this year, at cause of the pandemic, not at the Colosseum but in the churchyard of the Vatican Basilica.

At 7.30 pm on Holy Saturday,

April 3

, the Pope will again be at the altar of the chair of St. Peter for the Easter vigil.

Then at 10 am on Sunday,

April 4

, in the Vatican Basilica, he will celebrate Easter Mass, concluded with the traditional message and the "urbi et orbi" blessing.

All the celebrations will take place with a "limited" presence of the faithful in "compliance with the health measures provided".

The following day, Monday of the Angel,

April 5

, the first performance of the Regina Caeli (until Pentecost it is no longer Angelus) from the library of the Apostolic Palace.
