Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The interest of the North Rhine-Westphalian municipalities in model projects to open up social life with strict protection and test concepts is great.

A total of 46 municipalities - 26 districts and 20 cities - have submitted concepts for digital pandemic management, as NRW Economics Minister Andreas Pinkwart (FDP) announced on Thursday.

"The good participation shows that many municipalities want to use their digital skills to enable citizens to take cultural, social and economic activities pandemic-safe and responsibly," said the FDP politician.

The aim of the state is to try out innovative ways of pandemic-proof operation in clearly defined areas.

This can include sports, youth and leisure facilities, stages and other cultural sites or shopping centers and outdoor restaurants.

Particular emphasis is placed on digital support in the areas of contact tracking, vaccination and testing.

The state will select six to eight municipalities for this after Easter.

According to the federal-state resolution of March 22, 2021, the states in selected regions can, under strict conditions, approve temporary model projects for individual areas of public life in order to examine possibilities for the responsible lifting of restrictions.
