Hamburg (dpa / lno) - Incorrectly disposed of masks, plastic gloves and other corona protective materials can be fatal, according to the German Wildlife Foundation.

For example, elastic bands from masks can wrap around birds' beaks, or animals can get their wings or feet tangled in them, warns the foundation.

In addition, birds, but also mammals such as foxes and wild boars, unintentionally eat the remains of protective clothing.

Wild animals are also becoming victims of the pandemic, says foundation board member Klaus Hackländer.

He advises: never throw away waste such as masks and plastic gloves loose, but put them in tear-resistant, tight garbage bags, close tightly and dispose of with the residual waste.
