Kassel / Lubmin (dpa) - The European gas connection line Eugal has been completed according to the operator.

A second line and a compressor station were put into operation on Thursday, said the transmission system operator Gascade in Kassel.

This means that the pipeline, which runs around 480 kilometers from the natural gas receiving station in Lubmin near Greifswald to Deutschneudorf (Saxony) on the German-Czech border, can transport up to 55 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually.

The first line has been transporting natural gas since the beginning of 2020.

The pipeline was supposed to receive gas from the Nord Stream 2 Baltic Sea pipeline, but it has not yet been completed.

The Eugal is also connected to other gas pipelines, such as the Northern European gas pipeline NEL.
