Munich (dpa / lby) - In their church services, the two large churches in Bavaria remember the suffering and death of Jesus on Good Friday.

In contrast to the previous year, when no believers were able to attend the services due to the corona restrictions, this year people are allowed to come to the churches - but strict rules still apply.

The Archbishop of Munich, Cardinal Reinhard Marx, will celebrate the Good Friday liturgy in the Liebfrauendom with only about 130 visitors.

Usually there is space for around 1000 people.

The Protestant regional bishop Heinrich Bedford-Strohm preaches in the Good Friday service in Munich's St. Matthew's Church.

Many church services in the Free State are broadcast on the Internet.

Originally, the group of prime ministers and the federal chancellor asked the churches not to attend church services at Easter.

Church representatives had however emphasized that their protection concepts were good enough and rejected this.

In some regions with particularly high numbers of infections, however, the churches limit themselves voluntarily.

The Catholic parishes in the Kulmbach area in Upper Franconia canceled almost all services in April.

In Hof, the big Easter vigil in the Michaeliskirche is canceled, as the Protestant dean Günther Saalfrank said.

In addition, people are increasingly relying on open-air church services and digital offers.

And: The people involved in church services do quick tests beforehand.

The traditional Good Friday processions will not take place in the Free State.

For example, the great procession in Lower Franconia in Lohr am Main is canceled, as is the Good Friday procession in Bamberg.
