“Foreign Minister Dominic Raab has announced new sanctions against the Myanmar regime: the sanctions extend to the Myanmar Economic Corporation, a conglomerate with ties to the military.

The sanctions take effect immediately, ”the British Foreign Office said in a statement.

London said the company provided financial support to the military involved in human rights abuses in Myanmar.

On February 1, the military in Myanmar declared a state of emergency for a year after the arrest of President Vin Myin and leader of the ruling National League for Democracy Party, Aung San Suu Kyi.

The United States, Britain and the European Union have imposed sanctions on Myanmar.
