Alsfeld (dpa / lhe) - Before starting the testing of opening steps, the city of Alsfeld selected as a model municipality had specified its plans.

"Safety comes before speed," emphasized Alsfeld's mayor Stephan Paule (CDU) in an online public consultation on Thursday.

As part of the trial, it is planned to open certain shops, such as shoes and clothing, to customers.

You should present a negative corona test no longer than 24 hours old and be able to shop in these stores after entering your contact details.

However, cafes and restaurants were initially closed.

If the project proves its worth, the next step will be to open the outdoor catering and then possibly also the indoor catering, said Paule.

In addition to Alsfeld, the state government had previously selected Baunatal and Dieburg as further model municipalities in which opening steps in the corona pandemic can be tested.

The general prerequisite for the model project is that the coronavirus does not spread too much in the Vogelsberg district.

The project will be canceled if the so-called seven-day incidence - i.e. the number of new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past 7 days - exceeds 200 on 3 consecutive days in the district, said Paule.

If this is the case at the planned start on April 8, the start will be postponed until the incidence is below 200 on 3 consecutive days.

On Thursday, the value for the Vogelsbergkreis according to the Berlin Robert Koch Institute was 184.6.

In the event of the project being canceled, a new release will probably have to be obtained, said Paule.

Supermarkets and other shops for daily needs will continue to be open to customers without corona rapid tests, said the mayor.

The city had already expanded its test capacities in the past few weeks.

Around 600 rapid tests could currently be offered in Alsfeld per day, said Paule.

Tests from other Hessian municipalities would not be accepted in order to prevent too many people from flocking to Alsfeld from outside.

In principle, however, people from other regions of Hesse are also allowed to register for a rapid test in Alsfeld and, in the event of a negative result, shop there.

The proportion of these people is limited to a quarter.
