The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, seeks to oppose himself to Russia against the background of criticism against him after the diplomat's visit to Moscow, said Vladimir Dzhabarov, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs.

Thus, he commented on the statement of the European diplomat about the "attack" that he was allegedly subjected to in Russia.

“It seems to me that Mr. Borrell got a little carried away in his Russophobic rhetoric, and after the fiasco of his trip to Moscow, when, frankly, he was kicked in the European Union for being too loyal in Moscow, as they believe, to Russia,” he is trying to become the coolest Russophobe, ”Dzhabarov said in an interview with an RT correspondent.

Dzhabarov also suggested that Western states would have acted in a similar way if it had been about the participation of Russian diplomats in prohibited actions.

Earlier, the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, praised Russia's decision in February to expel diplomats from Germany, Poland and Sweden.

According to Borrell, we are talking about an "attack".

“They invited me and took advantage of the visit to announce that the diplomats were being expelled - this is an attack, not an insult.

This is an attack, in diplomatic communication between countries that want to have good relations, they do not do that.

We have already expressed to Russia everything we think about this, "he said in an interview with France 24. According to Borrell, relations between Russia and the EU" are at a dead end. "

Recall that on February 5, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced persona non grata employees of the embassies of these three states for their participation in illegal actions that took place on the territory of Russia on January 23.

Russian diplomats stressed that such actions on the part of employees of foreign diplomatic missions are unacceptable and do not correspond to their diplomatic status.

Dmitry Novikov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, stressed that the official responsible for diplomatic relations between states should not pretend that something unusual and extraordinary had happened in the situation with the expulsion.

“If the expulsion of diplomats had not happened, then one should wonder why Russia is showing such spinelessness, but when they try to comment on completely understandable subjects and pretend that they do not understand them, this means that anti-Russian news stories are bad, and the task of supporting the anti-Russian agenda in the information space is faced by all officials of the EU and individual EU states that are members of the EU, ”Novikov told RT.

In his opinion, we are talking about "a demonstration by Borrell of his readiness to be in the general context of anti-Russian aspirations."

Anton Morozov, a member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, believes that the reputation of Western states has suffered damage against the background of the situation with the participation of diplomats in prohibited actions.

“I think this, of course, caused some damage to the reputation of states that allowed their diplomats to interfere in the internal affairs of the host country, that is, Russia, and this, in general, weakens their international authority,” he said in an interview with RT.

The deputy called the expulsion a completely justified decision and expressed confidence that Russia would never allow foreign states to interfere in the domestic political situation.

Borrel's trip to Russia

Note that Borrell's visit to Moscow took place on February 4-6.

At this time, the diplomat met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

After returning in February, the head of EU diplomacy expressed in his blog the opinion that the Russian authorities did not use his visit as an opportunity to establish a more constructive dialogue with the EU.

MEPs later criticized Borrell for his visit to Russia and demanded his resignation.

Subsequently, Borrell made several other statements about Russia.

In particular, the head of Euro-diplomacy expressed the opinion that Russia has embarked on a course of confrontation with the European Union.

Later, he also called Russia a "dangerous neighbor", but called for keeping open channels of communication to resolve issues of mutual interest.

At the same time, shortly after Borrell's visit to the Russian Federation, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that relations between Moscow and Brussels "are almost gone", but the Russian side is ready to continue the dialogue.

Lavrov stressed that the EU "has consistently destroyed all mechanisms, without exception," of interaction with Moscow, which existed on the basis of an agreement on partnership and cooperation.

“Anyone who is more or less interested in the situation in Europe has long known that for many years now this rupture has been taking place, relations have been consistently severed by the European Union,” he said at a press conference with his Finnish counterpart Pekka Haavisto.

At the same time, the minister drew attention to the fact that Russia does not have any problems in relations with most of the European countries separately.
