March 31, 2021 Accused of blasphemy in Poland, Adam 'Nergal' Darski, singer and guitarist of the internationally renowned radical rock group Behemoth, has successfully launched a fundraiser to defend freedom of artistic expression, as reported by Ansa / Afp.

In mid-February, Nergal was fined by a Warsaw court in a trial, the sixth to date, for insulting religious sentiments or national symbols and appealed.

The artist is accused of stepping on an image of the Virgin Mary and documented the gesture, in 2019, on his Instagram site.

Previously, he tore the Bible off the stage and bluntly criticized the Catholic Church.

Nergal came out unscathed from three previous trials.

Created in 1991, his group Behemoth has experienced an impressive rise on the world extreme metal scene, with its pagan, occult and satanic imagery, but also the particular attention to the quality of the concerts and the visual side of the performances.
