Dresden (dpa / sn) - The tax investigation in Saxony tracked down 117 million euros last year.

That was significantly more than in 2019, when the tax investigators booked around 95 million euros for the tax authorities.

About half of the uncovered tax damage go back to just under 72 million euros on criminal proceedings for VAT fraud, said the Ministry of Finance in Dresden on Wednesday.

This is followed by evaded income tax (21 million euros), trade tax (5.4 million euros) and wage tax (3 million euros).

Tax investigation in Saxony has 104 employees in Dresden, Leipzig and Chemnitz.

According to the ministry, they carried out more than 1,000 preliminary investigations.

Almost 300 criminal proceedings were initiated as a result.
