Rheinfelden (dpa / lsw) - A possible sale of the insolvent aluminum smelter Rheinfelden to the Russian group Rusal is on the brink.

The EuroAtlantic investor group and a medium-sized consortium are also ready to buy the company, as the managing director of the Alloys division, Erika Zender, announced in a video conference on Wednesday.

Because the investors want to keep the production and thus the jobs of the aluminum smelter in Rheinfelden (Lörrach district), this solution is preferred, said Zender, who is also the daughter of the owner Alois Franke, who died in 2019.

Accordingly, the future investors have already submitted an insolvency plan to the Lörrach district court.

Rheinfelden ALLOYS GmbH & Co. KG produces cast aluminum alloys for the automotive industry.

According to its own information, the EuroAtlantic Group focuses on investments with a focus on real estate, artificial intelligence systems and renewable energies.

The group of investors is thus competing with the Russian aluminum giant Rusal, which had previously expressed interest in buying the Rheinfeld specialist.

The Federal Cartel Office had already approved a purchase, but the approval by the Federal Ministry of Economics was pending.
