March 31, 2021 France passes all into the red zone for four weeks: President Emmanuel Macron announced this in a speech to the nation broadcast on all TVs.

"The rules in force for the Paris region and in the 19 departments under enhanced supervision will be extended to the entire metropolitan territory from Saturday evening and for four weeks", including the closure of non-essential shops and a curfew from 19. "The virus is circulating quickly, no region is spared today, "he added.

Macron stressed that "the health crisis has lasted for over a year, a year of pain, of trials". It was "a year of efforts for all, of anguish, of sacrifices: a year in which we all resisted and learned together". But, Macron continued, "we must still resist ... if we remain united, in solidarity, if we know how to organize the next few weeks, then we will see the light at the end of the tunnel".

Macron "appealed to the mobilization" against Covid "for the month of April", stating that in the battle against the pandemic the three principles that must be inspired are "safety, responsibility and balance".

"If we don't act, the situation will get out of control. So what I'm asking of you tonight is an extra effort."
