Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - Hesse follows the recommendation of the Standing Vaccination Commission and has suspended corona vaccinations for under 60-year-olds with the active ingredient from Astrazeneca.

The state government announced on Wednesday in Wiesbaden.

The approximately 12,500 citizens affected by this with vaccination appointments in the 28 vaccination centers in Hesse would instead receive vaccines from the companies Biontech or Moderna.

"The change is uncomplicated and unbureaucratic on site in the vaccination centers," said the State Chancellery.

According to a decision by the federal and state health ministers, the Astrazeneca vaccine is now generally only to be used for people aged 60 and over.

The Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) had previously recommended such an age limit for Astrazeneca.

The background to this are cases of blood clots (thromboses) in cerebral veins in connection with vaccinations.
