He stated this during a meeting with the head of the General Assembly of the Armed Forces of Belarus Viktor Gulevich.

“In the current military-political situation, as well as new challenges and threats, we consider ensuring the military security of the Union State among our priority tasks,” Gerasimov said.

The Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces added that joint military planning is being carried out within the framework of the Union State, the Unified Regional Air Defense System of Belarus and Russia has been created and is functioning.

According to him, "special attention is paid to joint activities of operational and combat training."

He also said that in 2021, a joint strategic exercise "West-2021" is planned at the training grounds of Russia and Belarus.

"The main result of the exercise will be to ensure the readiness of our armed forces to defend the Union State and to demonstrate their joint capabilities," Gerasimov said.

He added that also in 2021, it is planned to conduct a tactical exercise "Slavic Brotherhood" and a number of events within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.

Gerasimov also congratulated Gulevich on his appointment as Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces - First Deputy Minister of Defense of Belarus and wished him success in this responsible post.
