Potsdam (dpa / bb) - Brandenburg wants to accelerate the pace of corona vaccinations in the country with the help of the doctor's offices.

That is where the only potential for improvement lies, said Interior Minister Michael Stübgen (CDU) on Wednesday.

This is not possible in hospitals, vaccination centers and mobile vaccination teams.

"If every doctor who has agreed to vaccinate receives vaccination doses from next week, we can achieve that," he emphasized.

There is a promise from the federal government that every German citizen will receive a vaccination offer by September.

To do this, 125,000 people in Brandenburg would have to be vaccinated every calendar week.

"We are still a long way from that at the moment," said the minister.

According to Holger Rostek, Vice-President of the Brandenburg Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, vaccinations can be carried out across the country from next week.

30,000 vaccination doses are made available through the federal government.

1500 practices then received around 20 doses each.

"That's just a drop in the bucket," he said.

In addition, there are initially 28,000 doses of the Astrazeneca vaccine from the country's contingent.

They went to 200 model practices for people over 60 years of age.

According to the recommendation of the National Vaccination Commission, vaccinations with the substance Astrazeneca to under 60-year-olds were stopped on Tuesday afternoon in Brandenburg.

In April there were no second vaccinations for the age group in the plan, which means that they do not have to be canceled, said Stübgen.

For first vaccinations, a new delivery is expected after Easter.

According to the Interior Ministry, 416 951 people have been vaccinated so far: 319 698 for the first time and 97 253 for the second time.
