At 10pm local time on March 30th, the Mitake Crater of Suwanose Island, Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan erupted, and it erupted for the second time near 3am on the 31st.

Large stones were thrown from the crater to nearly 1 kilometer away.

  The Japan Meteorological Agency raised the local volcano warning level to level 3 in the early morning of the 31st. Level 3 means that people should not approach the crater. There are warnings that gravel can reach as far as 2 kilometers of the crater.

  There are about 80 residents on Suwa-no-se Island, and the village closest to the crater is 3 kilometers away.

No casualties have been reported yet.

  Suwa-nose Island is an active volcanic island located in the middle of the Turkala Archipelago. It covers an area of ​​about 27 square kilometers, with a coastline of 27 kilometers, and Mount Mitake is 799 meters above sea level.

Since late October 2020, Suwanose Island volcanic activity has become more frequent again.
