The Belarusian opposition is trying to bring Alexander Lukashenko to the negotiating table.

The former August 2020 presidential candidate now in exile, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, has launched an online referendum on the need to start negotiations with the president.

In less than two weeks, 760,000 people spoke on the platform set up by the opposition, in favor of negotiations with the power of Alexander Lukashenko.

The opposition hopes to achieve this goal in May, the goal being to find a peaceful end to the crisis and release the hundreds of political prisoners, while street demonstrations are still repressed.

According to Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, the European Union, the United States and the OSCE say they are ready to help organize this dialogue.

Several countries have even offered to act as mediators.

But the opponent, who was forced into exile in Lithuania the day after the presidential election, has no illusions: Alexander Lukashenko will only initiate a dialogue when forced and forced.

On her Telegram account, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya calls for maintaining the pressure inside and outside the country while seeking new forms of protests.

She recalled that recently the Baltic States introduced new sanctions and Switzerland joined the third EU sanctions package.

So far, Alexander Lukashenko has given no sign of opening up, limiting himself to mentioning vague constitutional reforms.

The commission responsible for working on the issue began its work in mid-March.

In opening, the Belarusian head of state quoted a sociological survey according to which 65% of the people questioned do not consider it necessary to change the Constitution.
