Dresden / Schwerin (dpa) - In the course of the ammunition affair at the Saxon State Criminal Police Office (LKA), the Public Prosecutor's Office is examining a connection to the right-wing extremist scene.

“At the moment, the electronic evidence is being evaluated like the accused's cell phones.

But this will certainly take a few days, ”said Nicole Geisler, spokeswoman for the authorities in Dresden.

In particular, a possible connection to the “Nordkreuz” group is being examined.

This grouping is classified as right-wing extremist by the constitution protection in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Investigations by the General Public Prosecutor's Office in Dresden and the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) Saxony against 17 officers of an LKA special unit became known on Tuesday.

The command leader and three shooting trainers are accused of stealing at least 7,000 rounds of ammunition from service stocks in November 2018 and using them as payment for private shooting training at a shooting range in Güstrow.

The Schwerin state parliament member of the Left, Peter Ritter, demanded a complete clarification of the events surrounding the private shooting range in Güstrow, which had also been used by the police for years.

According to the Schwerin Ministry of the Interior, police officers from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania had also trained on the shooting range, and some of them later found out that they were active in the “Nordkreuz” prepper group.

«It is urgent to find out what happened to this ammunition.

The searches at the "Nordkreuz" boss Marko G. also uncovered cartridges from Saxon police authorities, "said Ritter on Wednesday.

According to his own statements, the MP himself had been on a list of names which, according to the investigation, had been made by the “Nordkreuz” group and which consisted primarily of people from the left-wing camp.

Ex-policeman Marko G. was considered to be the leading head of the prepper group “Nordkreuz”, whose members prepared for a disaster with the creation of supplies, weapons stores and survival training.

At the end of 2019, the Schwerin Regional Court sentenced the former sniper at the Special Operations Command (SEK) to one year and nine months' probation for illegal possession of weapons, among other things.

The interior expert of the left in the Saxon state parliament is not assuming an isolated case.

"My impression is rather that an entire heavily armed special unit has become independent," said MP Kerstin Köditz when asked.

You expect professional action at all times in such a sensitive area.

This includes effective control.

"Apparently there was no such control within the LKA at all - or it failed completely."

In the past few years there has been one scandal after the next with the Saxon police and mostly a reference to the right-wing scene played a role.

The events did not have any personal consequences in the top management.

A special meeting of the Interior Committee is scheduled for Maundy Thursday, which was requested by the coalition factions CDU, Greens and SPD.
