Ostereistedt (dpa) - Happy record with a sad side: About 100,000 children wrote their wishes and worries to the Easter bunny in Ostereistedt for the second Easter under Corona.

Last year's high of the letter writing campaign with 59,000 letters was exceeded by far, as announced by Deutsche Post DHL.

The corona situation was very present in many letters.

«We read many letters in which the children expressed their concerns about the future.

We were able to give them new hope », said Doris Kröger.

The 61-year-old runs the Easter post office in the Lower Saxon village in the Rotenburg district.

The post office gave the Easter bunny this address: Hanni Hase, Am Waldrand 12, 27404 Ostereistedt.

This year 17 volunteers helped to answer every children's letter with a colorful Easter letter.

Because the team was inundated by the large number of letters, the last answers will not be sent until after Easter, according to Kröger.

"The immense popularity of the campaign shows us that the value of a traditional letter still enjoys a special level of trust," said Frank Schmidt, branch manager of Deutsche Post DHL in Bremen.

«Letters convey more than digital characters.

The daily look into our mailboxes should remain a piece of cultural heritage in the future. "

Letter writing to the Easter Bunny has been organized by Deutsche Post since 1982.

The children's letters come from Germany and all over the world.

The figure Hanni Hase has become more and more an advertising medium for Ostereistedt and the surrounding area in recent years.
