Boxberg (dpa / sn) - Saxony's Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer meets with Federal Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer (both CDU) at the Boxberg power plant.

A joint declaration is to be signed there, which deals with the contribution of the German armed forces in coping with structural change in the Saxon lignite mining district in Lusatia.

Like authorities whose settlement is planned, the Bundeswehr is to play a greater role in Lusatia in the future.

The plan for structural change also includes various infrastructure projects, such as the electrification of the Chemnitz-Leipzig and Dresden-Görlitz railway lines and a "Central German-Lusatia connection" from Halle via Leipzig and Torgau to Cottbus and Weißwasser.

About a quarter of the promised structural aid amounting to 40 billion euros is to flow to Saxony.
