Cairo / Hamburg (dpa) - Six container ships from the Hamburg shipping company Hapag-Lloyd are still stuck in traffic on the Suez Canal.

Hapag-Lloyd announced on its website on Tuesday that two ships, the “Tsingtao Express” and the “Salahuddin”, could have continued their voyage.

Another six ships from other shipping companies with Hapag-Lloyd containers on board had already taken the detour via the Cape of Good Hope as part of the partnership.

According to Hapag-Lloyd, the traffic jam on the Suez Canal will end by the weekend.

The shipping company is currently doing everything possible to avoid renewed traffic jams at the destination ports and terminals due to the increased number of ships that is now expected.

Exact routes and arrival times of the ships concerned are currently still being examined.

Because of the day-long blockade of the Suez Canal by the 400-meter-long "Ever Given", almost 370 ships have accumulated at both ends of the canal, according to the Egyptian Canal Authority.

The first ships had already left the canal by Tuesday morning and dozens had crossed it, as announced by the shipping service provider Leth Agencies and the shipping and logistics company GAC.
