- If we look at the entire range of building materials, there can be price increases of between 10 and 30 percent, says Jan Hellström who is branch manager at Beijer Byggmaterial in Gävle.

But far from all customers seem to know about the impending price increase:

- I did not know that.

It sounds like a juicy raise, says Jan Moine who has loaded impregnated wood for his summer cottage.

Raised commodity prices

According to Jan Hellström, higher raw material prices are behind the price increase - not least the price of wood products has risen sharply.

And the forest company Holmen believes that there is a global shortage of wood products that has driven the price development.

- In the American market, there has been a very strong demand in 2020. And this has meant that prices in the US have risen very sharply, says Johan Padel who is business area manager for wood products within Holmen.

Antti Vainio, who is Deputy CEO of the Central Swedish Chamber of Commerce, is positive that there is a great demand for wood products:

- When sales of wood products increase, the economy in the region is doing well, so it is great for many.

Worry that products are running out

In the building materials trade, however, there is a concern about ending up in a situation where some products simply run out.

- It's not nice to raise prices, but then you can at least build.

It's worse if it really runs out of material, then it's over, says Jan Hellström.
