Hanover (dpa) - The police union (GdP) in Lower Saxony is calling for better protection for civil servants due to difficult conditions in the corona pandemic.

The colleagues would have to be provided with FFP2 masks and rapid tests across the board, the GdP announced on Tuesday in Hanover.

"The current situation means an enormous additional burden for the police workers, as there are more deployments under difficult conditions," it said.

The GdP state chairman Dietmar Schilff also called for a quick vaccination for police officers who are in contact with the population.

At the same time, the union appealed to Lower Saxony to adhere to the applicable requirements and not to complicate the work of the police.

People should behave cooperatively during controls and observe the Easter gathering ban, contact restrictions or possible curfews.

According to its own information, the GdP Lower Saxony has 15,700 members.
