Frankfurt / Main (dpa) - The federal police have been checking the mandatory negative corona test notices of holiday returnees at the airports since Tuesday.

According to a spokesman for the Federal Police, this was the case with more than 100 flights from the Schengen area at Frankfurt Airport alone.

In the case of travelers arriving from third countries outside the EU and having to go through passport control, the federal police had checked beforehand whether travelers could present a negative corona test.

Now it was particularly about those returning from vacation who had used the Easter break for a trip.

A vacationer's flight from Palma de Mallorca was checked on Tuesday afternoon.

There were no complaints from any of the travelers, said the spokesman.

The mandatory test for vacationers, which has been in force since midnight, is initially to apply up to and including May 12th.

Anyone who cannot provide the airline with evidence of a negative result is not allowed to board the aircraft.

And those who test positive have to stay in the holiday area and quarantine in a hotel.

Since the introduction of mandatory testing had been postponed by a few days, the Federal Police believed that airlines and tour operators had sufficient time to prepare for the new rules.

"It was a bit tight, but in the end everything went well," said a Mallorca returnees at Frankfurt Airport, who had been tested in a hospital on the holiday island.

"All appointments at the airport were already booked for days."

A spokeswoman for the Condor airline said that test kits were flown to vacation areas such as the Maldives because of the decentralized structure there.

"There were actually 30 passengers at the airport who had not yet carried out a test and were able to return home after a negative test result."
