Hamburg (dpa) - After the initially unsuccessful negotiations for a nationwide collective agreement in the German meat industry, the food-pleasure-restaurants union (NGG) has announced warning strikes after Easter.

An NGG spokesman said on Tuesday the German press agency.

On Monday evening, the third round of negotiations in Hamburg ended without a result and without a new negotiation date.

The union had started talks with a demand for a three-tier minimum wage agreement for around 160,000 employees in the industry.

The minimum wage should therefore start at 12.50 euros.

After a short training period, it should increase to 14 euros per hour, skilled workers should receive 17 euros per hour.

The employers rejected this proposal as "unrealistic and threatening the existence of the company".

They complied with their proposal from the union on one point: The minimum wage should therefore be 10.50 euros with immediate effect and be gradually increased to 12.00 euros on December 1, 2023.

In mid-March, employers had proposed the fourth stage for July 1, 2024.

"This would increase the minimum wage according to the collective agreement within 2.5 years by 25 percent of the current minimum wage," says a statement from the employer.

The statutory minimum wage is currently 9.50 euros.

"With the offer submitted today to regulate the collectively agreed minimum wage, the German meat industry is pushing the boundaries of economic pain," said the negotiator on the employers' side, Theo Egbers, according to the announcement.
