Berlin (dpa / bb) - New Corona rules come into force in Berlin today, Wednesday.

An important point: Berliners have to show a negative Corona test for shopping in shops, for visits to the hairdresser or beauty salon, in museums and galleries.

This does not apply to supermarkets, pharmacies or drugstores that were also open during lockdown.

Companies now have an obligation to enable employees who do not work permanently at home to have corona tests at least twice a week.

In addition, companies should offer 50 percent of their office workplaces in the home office.

Also new is an FFP2 mask requirement in closed rooms beyond your own four walls.

Simpler surgical masks, which were previously allowed as an alternative to FFP2 masks, are no longer sufficient.

The regulation applies to buses and trains, shops, medical practices and hospitals, among other things.

With the package decided on last Saturday, the Berlin Senate hopes to get the recently increased corona numbers under control.

Critics, including Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU), do not go far enough.

If the number of infections continues to rise, the Senate reserves the right to tighten the contact restrictions, among other things.
