Munich (dpa / lby) - The Association of the Bavarian Metal and Electrical Industry has welcomed the pilot degree in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Managing Director Bertram Brossardt said on Tuesday that the pilot degree would “do justice to the extremely difficult times caused by recession, structural change and the corona pandemic”.

Employers and IG Metall had agreed on Tuesday morning for the companies on the Rhine and Ruhr a one-time corona bonus of 500 euros as well as annual special payments.

The first special payment will be made in February 2022 in the amount of 18.4 percent of a monthly salary.

In February 2023 it will rise to 27.6 percent and will then accrue annually.

The collective agreement runs until September 2022.

The employers' association Gesamtmetall had essentially recommended the collective bargaining result agreed for North Rhine-Westphalia for adoption in other collective bargaining areas.

The negotiation for Bavaria will take place in the week after the Easter break.

Brossardt said companies in a difficult position with a maximum of 2.3 percent net return on sales would automatically be relieved.

"In doing so, we take into account the heterogeneous situation of the companies."

Reductions in working hours with staggered partial wage compensation could only take place through voluntary works agreements and would be partially financed through the special payment.

«We welcome the fact that optional collective bargaining regulations have been created for the topics of future collective agreements and reduced working hours in the event of structural employment problems.

The companies can use this, but they are not obliged, ”said Brossardt.

Around 840,000 people work in the industry in Bavaria.

IG Metall had demanded four percent more wages or a corresponding reduction in working hours for companies in crisis.

234,000 workers took part in warning strikes in Bavaria in March - the highest participation in warning strikes in Germany.
