Munich (dpa) - The basketball players of FC Bayern Munich must continue to fear for the first entry into the Euroleague playoffs.

Due to the 68:77 (34:35) defeat on Tuesday evening against the Turkish top club Fenerbahce Istanbul, Munich missed the early qualification for the knockout round.

With 19:13 wins, the Bundesliga club, sixth in the table, still has a good chance of becoming the first German club to make it into the group of the best eight teams two game days before the end of the regular season.

But Bayern definitely have to defeat Zalgiris Kaunas (Lithuania) on Thursday (8.30 p.m.).

Finally, on April 9th, it goes to the leaders FC Barcelona.

The best eight clubs will play in the playoffs from April 20th.

Bayern started furiously and, thanks to eight points from Vladimir Lucic, quickly led 10: 3 (5th minute).

The Istanbul club came into play much better at the end of the first quarter, turned the match and led after ten minutes by 18:15.

In the second half, too, both lines of defense dominated the game, while both Bayern and Fenerbahce carelessly missed some chances under the basket.

Since no team could pull away, Bayern went into the break with 34:35.

The guests came into the game better after the break and increased their lead because Bayern were only able to score ten points.

National player Danilo Barthel's club was leading after 30 minutes with 53:44.

The former Bayern professional could not set accents and remained without a counter.

In the fourth quarter the Bavarians came up again to 68:73 (39th), but the experienced Turkish top club was happy in the end to make it into the playoffs.

The Munich team, on the other hand, was clearly disappointed with the missed opportunity.

Wade Baldwin was the best Bayern shooter with 20 points.
