The inflation rate in March was 1.8 percent, as announced by the State Statistical Office in Bad Ems.

In February, the experts had named an inflation rate of 1.2 percent.

The development is also clear compared to the previous year: In March 2020, the inflation rate in Rhineland-Palatinate was 1.4 percent.

According to the state office, energy prices rose by 6 percent within a year.

In particular, mineral oil products have become significantly more expensive with an increase of 15.7 percent, as the statisticians further announced on Tuesday.

Accordingly, people had to pay 14.4 percent more for fuel.

The price of heating oil - including the levy - has also increased by 4.2 percent.

According to the state office, food prices have risen by an average of 2.1 percent compared to March 2020.

Edible fats and oils in particular contributed to this, the prices of which rose by 3.6 percent.

Butter, for example, rose 6.3 percent in price.

Dairy products and eggs were also significantly more expensive compared to the previous year with an increase of 3.5 percent.

According to the State Statistical Office, the price collection was not possible or only to a limited extent in many shops in Rhineland-Palatinate in March due to the corona pandemic.
